The 1st Annual Rat Daddy Tattoo Carnival

September 2-4, 2005
Burlington, Iowa

After 16+ hours on the road the only thing I usually have to look forward to is a shower and a bed. Both of which are priorities and welcomed at that point. When Dr. Grift and I pulled into Burlington, Iowa for the Rat Daddy Tattoo Canrival we got an added bonus.

Rat and Jamie had very thoughtfully provided our room with a fruit basket and bottle of wine. We cleaned up, settled in, and even got a litte rest before heading to the welcome dinner party for artists and vendors.

It turned out that the basket and wine were only the beginning of their hospitality. Rat and Jamie constantly checked on every need and made things go as smoothly as possible  for everyone. And even though attendance was adversely affected by competing holiday weekend events and the tragedy of hurricane katrina they never once balked or held back from making everyone happy. Their well planned and executed event was a victim of circumstance but they did everything possible to make it a good time regardless.

We performed three times throughout the weekend and maintained our usual merchandise booth. The sets were fun and relaxed.

The benefit of the slow attendance was the chance for everyone to get out and visit each other's booths - often handing out promos and trading business. I think I got Lizardman shotglasses and lighters to pretty much all of the other booths.

Not at all put off by the bad luck, Rat was already planning for next year and talking about having us back. We're looking forward to it.
