Shortly after returning home from the Spring Jagermeister Music Tour, Dr Grift and I set out to the largest music festival in the world (according to their press) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Summerfest. Sobe had arranged for us to be part of their art & action arena for the first half of the nine day festival. Upon arriving in Milwaukee we grabbed our rental and headed for the hotel - a residence inn marriot. Let's just say Sobe knows how to treat a lizard. The two bedroom suite was easily larger and by far nicer than most of the apartments I have lived in. We enjoyed the manager's hospitality hours and relaxed before our first day. The Sobe setup consitsed of their usual sampling tents along with a half-pipe and a stage in front of the half-pipe. Throughout the day between noon and six there would be half-pipe demos by riders from the local 4 seasons skatepark followed by our set of 15-20 minutes of sideshow stunts. The shows went really well and the crowd filled the bleachers and open space around them. Most days our set consisted of a straighjacket escape, blockhead variations, the corkscrew, an ear lift, and finally the doctor's eyelid lift. Conveniently located right next to the Sobe arena was the Captain's Deck where we were provided with free beer, appetizers, and ice cream. Life at Summerfest was decidedly pretty good. We managed to catch Lewis Black and Alice Cooper one night, as well as run into some old friends from the road who were working various crews. |
