The Superbowl of Ink is a body art expo held, as the name would imply, on superbowl weekend in Youngstown, Ohio. This was the second year for the event and Scott and I had been asked to return to perform again after a great response from the year before. We were really happy to return, the event is very well run and attended and the hotel venue is excellent. This year proved that things were only improving with more artists and vendors and excellent crowds every day.

We left Albany, NY in the early afternoon with plans to get to Ohio in time for a couple drinks at the bar and then a good night's sleep. We had discovered the year before that bars in Ohio closed a bit earlier than we were accustomed to - it's not unusual for us to be out till 4 or 5am in NY - so we came prepared, with a case of beer and a fifth of Jack Daniels just in case. On the way we stopped off for gas and food at one of my favorite all time travel stops in northern PA on I-90 just over the NY border. I take this route alot from Albany and I often stop here for my gas refill and pizza. They also have fun security signs at the pumps...

Once at the hotel, everything went pretty much as planned - hit the bar, relaxed, did some preparation for the next day, and got a good night's sleep. As I said before, the event had definitely gotten even better since the year before and the new floor layout and stge reflected it. We had a table right by the stage to sell signed photos which provided us with a good view of the first day's activities. Our show wasn't until the second day, so we took it easy, hanging out and talking with people, and watching the contests.

Since, we had the day off from performing we decided to indulge a bit during the day. Rather than hitting the bar on the event floor, Scott would fill up our 48 oz cups from the travel stop with beer in the hotel and bring it back down to our table by the stage. Now, usually a case of beer will seem like a fairly decent quantity - that is, unless you are drinking it 4 bottles at a time. To us it seemed like we only had three beers, because thats how many cups we drank, and then suddenly we were out of beer. So, we did the only logical thing - went for the Jack. Needless to say, by the end of a 12 hour day we had a good head start before we went to the bar...

The show and the second day went very well and we had a great audience. I really believe that this event will only continue to improve and I hope we get to be a part of it for years to come.
